The Seattle Seahawks have made some changes to their roster as they continue to shape their team for the season ahead. In a move that reflects the reality of tough roster math, the team has waived safety Jerrick Reed II.

Reed, who was named to the NFL's All-Rookie team in 2023, had a promising start with the Seahawks. He was a standout special teams contributor, logging 157 snaps and leading the team with 11 tackles in the third phase. However, his opportunity narrowed due to injuries and added competition in the secondary.

Injuries limited Reed to just five appearances in his second season, and the exact nature of his injury remains unspecified. However, it was severe enough to sideline him for the remainder of the season. His return from injury this summer was met with a crowded depth chart in the Seattle Seahawks' safety room.

Julian Love and Coby Bryant are already locked into roles in the safety room. The Seahawks, who traditionally keep only four safeties, chose depth elsewhere instead of keeping Reed. The door remains open for another chance for Reed elsewhere in the league.

The Seattle Seahawks have added to their safety room with the addition of second-round pick Nick Emmanwori and free agent D'Anthony Bell. Reed's release closes one chapter in his time with the team, but it's clear that the Seahawks are looking to the future.

Reed plays fast, tackles well in space, and consistently impacts games on special teams. His departure leaves a void that will need to be filled, but the Seahawks are confident in their new additions. The team is now focused on preparing for the upcoming season, ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead.
