Delhi, April 14, 20XX - A significant initiative to manage the city's stray dog population has been set in motion. The campaign, a collaborative effort between government bodies, private veterinarians, NGOs, and volunteers, aims to strike a balance between public safety and animal welfare.

The drive, which is one of the largest in the country with nearly 8,00,000 stray dogs, will follow the Animal Birth Control (ABC) model and the "Lucknow model," both renowned for their humanity and effectiveness.

Under this campaign, stray dogs will be captured, vaccinated, sterilized, and relocated to shelters. The municipalities of Delhi are required to establish proper feeding zones and set up helplines for complaints and tracking related to stray dogs.

24 out of 78 government veterinary hospitals in Delhi will serve as sterilization and vaccination centers. Aggressive dogs will receive red tags, and QR code collars may be used to track vaccination details.

The campaign's primary objective is to reduce rabies cases and improve public safety in Delhi. To this end, only dogs with rabies or those displaying aggressive behavior will be kept in shelters.

The Supreme Court has also played a crucial role in this initiative. It has banned feeding stray dogs on public roads and recognized the "Lucknow model" as the national benchmark for managing stray dogs. The Court's new directions for stray dogs include sterilization, deworming, vaccination, and release back into their areas.

Education programs are being planned to increase awareness among citizens and animal lovers about responsible pet ownership and the importance of this campaign. The drive in Delhi marks the beginning of a national effort to create a uniform, humane, and scientific policy for stray dog management across India.

This campaign, with its focus on compassionate care for stray dogs, represents a significant step forward in ensuring the welfare of these animals while maintaining public safety.
